I was recently reading Breaking Ranks II from the NASSP and stumbled upon the term “Hunters and Gathers” regarding teachers. As a former classroom educator, I can really appreciate the concept of needing to continually seek out resources and strategies that help connect individual students with meaning making. I like the idea that educators must know the purpose and movement of children. As educators, we are responsible for capturing the attention of young minds and building opportunities for them to construct meaning. We must “hunt” for ways to “gather” essential learnings that lead to improved student achievement.
