In this short video, Randy Nelson brilliantly outlines how Pixar accepts the ideas of others and continually seeks to “plus” or improve each other. Nelson parallels the Pixar strategy for collaboration to rules of improv: Accept every offer & always make your partner look good. He proposes four concepts/skills that must be present to effectively “accept every offer and make the other person look good.”
1. Depth – Show mastery in something.
2. Breadth – Have a broad range of experiences.
3. Communication – Listen and then translate concepts well.
4. Collaboration – Amplify others.
Nelson concludes his talk with a question that we must process and pursue:
“How can we invigorate student leadership and ignite a spark in them to amplify each other in and out of the classroom?”
We should listen…
